Splinting Information
The purpose of a splint is to help reduce contracture, help increase range of motion, and provide support to a joint.
The reason for reducing contractures is to increase range of motion so that better hygiene can be done, possibly decrease pain in a joint, and to help protext from skin breakdown.
A splint should be removed immediately if redness is noted on the skin, pain or swelling occurs, or if skin breakdown or other abnormality occurs.
